WBro Tony Harvey is an active Scout as well as a Freemason.

Joining the Scout movement on his eighth birthday, Bro Harvey went on to become a Queen’s Scout. As an adult he has held Scouter and Commissioner appointments at Group, District and County levels. Since the late eighties he has been involved with the work of The Scout Association’s UK headquarters where he has been a member of a number of national boards, committees and teams, especially in the areas of adult recruitment, adult training and activities, and has been a regular contributor to Scouting Magazine. He was involved in the review and restructuring of Scouting in the late 1990’s / early 2000’s, during which time he worked on the development of a new adult training scheme. He was then asked to help define the Association’s future approach to, and standards for, volunteer leadership and management. His current volunteer work is with both the fundraising department and the heritage department.

Together with WBro The Hon Michael Baden-Powell, Bro Harvey is a director and trustee of the charity that bought “Jam Roll” back into Scouting. Jam Roll is the Rolls-Royce car that the Scouts of the World bought for Lord Baden-Powell to celebrate Scouting’s coming of age in 1929. He is both a UK Scout Fellow and a World Baden-Powell Fellow and was awarded The Scout Association’s “Silver Acorn”, for specially distinguished services, in the St. George’s Day Awards of 2006.

Masonically, Bro Harvey was initiated into Pioneer Lodge No. 9065, the Province of Derbyshire’s Scout Lodge, in Scout uniform, at the age of thirty-one. He is a Past Master of Pioneer Lodge, Walesby Forest Lodge No. 9674 (Nottinghamshire), Authors’ Lodge No. 3456 (London) and of the Lodge of Unity, Peace & Concord No. 316, the Kindred Lodges Association’s (KLA) Installed Masters’ Lodge, as well as a member of a number of other Lodges. In 2009 he became the Founding Master of The Scout Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1907, a Lodge which meets in different provinces to bring together local Scouting and local Mark Masonry.

Within his home province of Derbyshire, Bro Harvey was the Provincial Grand Mentor for six years, the Mark Provincial Grand Secretary for nine years and the Craft Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2014. He is currently Derbyshire’s Provincial Communication Officer. He is working with United Grand Lodge’s Membership Focus Group (MFG) to develop the Members’ Pathway programme that features in UGLE’s strategy for the Future of Freemasonry. He was a Council Member of the RMTGB and is a Director of the Masonic Charitable Foundation. He was appointed Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in United Grand Lodge in 2016.

As the Kindred Lodges Association’s (KLA’s) liaison with the UK Scout Association and United Grand Lodge, Bro Harvey meets at intervals with senior staff and volunteers at The Scout Association, to discuss matters relating to Scouting and Freemasonry. In 2008 he was invited to meet with the Grand Secretary, as a result of which UGLE has endorsed Bro Harvey’s work. Senior members of both organisations have since met at intervals to discuss matters of mutual interest and to build relationships that, Bro Harvey believes, are benefitting both organisations.

When he is not engaged in Scouting or Masonic activities, Bro Harvey works as a leadership consultant, trainer and coach. He works with companies and organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors, designing and delivering bespoke development programmes for directors and managers.

Bro Harvey has published books and articles in the areas of learning, training and organisational development. As well as holding degrees in psychology & education and in management he is a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, of the Chartered Management Institute and of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, manufactures and commerce. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Educators.
