Tony Harvey is an active Scout as well as Freemason. Joining the Scout movement on his eighth birthday, Bro Harvey went on to become a Queen’s Scout. As an adult he has held appointments at local and national levels. Since the late eighties he has been involved with the work of The Scout Association’s UK headquarters where he has been a member of a number of national boards, committees and teams, especially in the areas of adult recruitment, adult training and activities, and has been a regular contributor to Scouting Magazine. He was recently involved in defining the Association’s future approach to, and standards for, volunteer leadership and management, and is currently leading a project to develop the way the Association trains its volunteer trainers. Together with WBro The Hon Michael Baden-Powell, Bro Harvey is a director and trustee of the charity that bought “Jam Roll” back into Scouting. Jam Roll is the Rolls-Royce car that the Scouts of the World bought for Lord Baden-Powell to celebrate Scouting’s coming of age in 1929. He is both a UK Scout Fellow and a World Baden-Powell Fellow and was awarded The Scout Association’s “Silver Acorn”, for specially distinguished services, in the St. George’s Day Awards of 2006. Masonically, Bro Harvey was initiated into Pioneer Lodge № 9065, the Province of Derbyshire’s Scout Lodge, in Scout uniform, at the age of thirty-one. He is also a founder and Past Master of Walesby Forest Lodge № 9674, Nottinghamshire’s Scout Lodge; a member of the Essex Scout Lodge, Venturer Lodge № 7897, and Senior Warden of Authors’ Lodge № 3456 in London. In 2009 he became the Founding Master of The Scout Lodge of Mark Master Masons № 1907, a Lodge which meets in different provinces to bring together local Scouting and local Mark Masonry.
Within his home province of
Derbyshire, Bro Harvey is the Provincial Grand Mentor and the Mark
Provincial Grand Secretary. When he is not engaged in Scouting or Masonic activities, Bro Harvey works as a leadership consultant, trainer and coach. He works with companies and organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors, designing and delivering bespoke development programmes for directors and managers. Bro Harvey has published books and articles in the areas of learning, training and organisational development. As well as holding degrees in psychology & education and in management he is a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, of the Chartered Management Institute and of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, manufactures and commerce.
